We had plenty of time to marvel at the dazzling rooms of the palace before returning to the barge for dinner. Every day, we participated in exciting day trips that provided insights into local culture and history, whether it was Renaissance, Roman, Etruscan or Byzantine. On some occasions, our knowledgeable cruise director, Ilaria took us on a tour and sometimes we were joined by a local guide. After lunch, we were treated to a guided tour of the 14th century Ducal Palace in Mantua. We also visited some other important churches and learned about the local specialties.
